Ambassadors - how it works

Everything you need to know about being a Dublin Ambassador

A visitor books a meeting on our website.

As an Ambassador you can log in to our site, see what time slots are available, and decide to take a meeting by clicking the “Meet Visitor” button.

Both parties are sent an email confirming the meeting. It is essential that you give at least 24 hours notice if you have to cancel a meeting.

On the day, the Ambassador arrives at our office at 15 St Stephen’s Green at least 5 minutes before the appointed time. (It’s important that you are here to welcome the visitor.)

We introduce you to each other and the visitor chooses which venue you will go to: Bewley’s of Grafton Street, The Merrion Hotel or the Porterhouse Bar.

We give you a voucher to cover the cost of one round of refreshments. These vouchers are non-refundable, and no change will be given.

We describe the route the visitor will take to the venue. Please do not veer from this route. This is a necessary security precaution.

Upon arrival at the venue, present the voucher and you will be looked after. We’ll call the venue to make sure you have arrived and that everything is going according to plan!

Welcome the visitor to Dublin, tell them a little about the city and try to answer any questions they may have about the city.

While some conversations will go on for more than just a cup of tea or a drink, do not feel obliged to offer more that a short welcome over a single drink. Similarly, the tourist should not feel obliged to continue the meeting any longer than the duration of the refreshments.

If the visitor has specific questions you cannot answer, direct them to the Dublin Tourism office on Suffolk St.

Afterwards we’ll email you and the visitor to see how you got on. We want this service to become renowned all over the world, so the more feedback we get in these early stages the better.

Finally, pat yourself on the back for playing a vital role in the promotion of Irish hospitality!
