Dublin is changing – for the better – and Luas Cross City is part of that change. Linking two Luas light rail lines, this is one of the largest capital investment projects ever undertaken by the Irish government, with a budget of €368 million. A good news story for the city, the Luas Cross City works will promote economic growth, create 100 sustainable jobs, reduce congestion and integrate the cities public transport network. Fully operational by 2017, Luas Cross City will make the city easier to navigate and – ultimately – a better place to visit and live in.

Ever wonder who keeps the city ticking? Dublin City Council (Irish: Comhairle Cathrach Bhaile Átha Cliath) is the local authority for Dublin. The Council is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the capital. It has 52 members and is the largest local authority in the country. Until 2001, it was known as Dublin Corporation. The Dublin City Manager is the chief executive officer of the council. The current Manager, Owen Keegan, is responsible for a staff of 6,200. The offices of the Manager and other administrative staff are on Wood Quay.
If you’ve ever taken a trip to Europe’s most friendly small country, you’ve probably been in touch with the good people from Fáilte Ireland (which means “Ireland’s Welcome”). It’s the National Tourism Development Authority of the Republic of Ireland. Established under the National Tourism Development Authority Act of 2003, it replaces and builds upon the functions of Bord Fáilte. Fáilte Ireland works in partnership with tourism interests to support the industry in its efforts to be more profitable and to help individual tourist enterprises enhance their performance.
